EuroTripping – Rotterdam Cityscapes

While we were in Rotterdam for the day on our European road trip last July, much of our long walk was along the Nieuwe Maas.

We explored some of the newer neighbourhoods where modern buildings have sprouted up over the last few decades. Our journey crisscrossed the river and we walked over a number of bridges including Willemsbrug and Erasmusbrug. Along with all the riverfront architecture, we also noted a variety of boats doing their thang or moored at river’s edge.

This collection of images feature views of the city of Rotterdam along the waterfront that include buildings, bridges and boats.

Locks on the Rijnhavenbrug with part of Wilhelminakade in the distance

The sculpture Maasbeeld, by Auke de Vries seen over the Maas with the Markthal peeking from behind some buildings in the Stadsdriehoek neighborhood

Some tugboats leading an empty barge on the river

From L to R, the KPN Tower, the deRotterdam complex and Las Palmas on the riverfront over in the Kop van Zuid neighborhood

I really loved this cool sort of drawbridge style of the Koninginnebrug train bridge

Buildings, including the white Wilemswerf wedge

A closer look at the kind of crazy colours and designs of towers on Stadsdriehoek

The Erasmusbrug in the distance

Peeking out at Willemsbrug from the Kubuswoningen (Cube Houses)

Aptly named “Rotterdam” in Rotterdam, flying a Dutch tricolor
