EuroTripping – Bremen Details

Last week, I posted some scenes from our overnight stay in Bremen, one of our last stops as we headed back to Oslo on our 3 week European road trip. Today, I wanted to post shots that offer a more detailed look at some of the sights we came across.

Much of our time was spent wandering around the market square in Bremen, where the buildings are festooned with (in my opinion) crazy and fun architectural details: lots of gargoyles as well as loads of figures and mythical creatures in addition to the grand medieval and Renaissance architecture itself. I liked the building materials as well, as brick and stone are favourites (and I can’t not enjoy some climbing vines).

Here is an image collection of architectural details (lots of creatures and figures), some stand-alone sculptures, and a few more modern, random items that caught my eye in Bremen on a summer evening last year.

The Rathous is an example of Brick Gothic and Weser Renaissance architecture

Faces and a figure dramatise a corner

Looking up at the medieval Cathedral

Not sure what the story is behind this piece but I’m interested…

A figure seen on a more modern building holding…??…

Another fun figure (loving the face on the shield the lion has)

A closer look at the Rathaus, just covered in a variety of figures and faces

I come away thinking maybe I need gargoyles or faces on my own abode

A mysterious sculpture (Obdachloser mit Einkaufswagen) appeared in a park in Bremen (and it seems part of the cart has since been vandalized)

A happy wall of vines (and a peculiar dormer window up top)

Fall colours in July?

I had to include the Bremen Town Musicians

Details on the Hauptbahnhof as it begins to glow in late evening light
