Out and About – Trees

Here is a collection of tree images shot over the past couple of years. Most were taken around Oslo or during a visit last year to Gotland.

    1. Ooooo, you MUST MUST MUST see fall in Norway. It’s so gorgeous.

      I didn’t grow up with fall colors (I lived in the desert southwest of the US) so when I moved to Oslo over 20 years ago now I was agog over the fall season here and all over Norway. Even now, I just love it.

      My son was born on the 7th of October and I remember back then (he’s 19 now), I wanted to get on with things after the birth (there were minor complications with him being jaundiced so he had to get some light therapy) so we could stroll amongst the colorful leaves. They hung on until we were out of the hospital and done with the therapy. So I always have associated early October with the balance of the fall colors and the leaves starting to fall from the trees.

      Then, 2 years later, my daughter was born on the 24th of September. Just as fall was blooming. And I’ve ever after associated my kids’ birthdays with autumn.

      Anyhoo, the long answer I’m trying to get to is: come to Norway in late September/early October to experience the fall colors. With the caveat that the last 5 years or so, fall seems to come somewhat late due to climate change. So maybe the first two weeks of October, just to be safe. I took the images in Oslo shown here on the 12th of October. We definitely had a noticeably late season last year.

      But, seriously, do come. It’s just so lovely.
