EuroTripping – Vienna’s Zentralfriedhof

We had four full days in Vienna while on our European Pretzel this past summer. The days were sizzlers so we tried to get an early start when we could. One morning, we decided to explore Vienna’s largest cemetery, the Zentralfriedhof, and arrived just after 8am.

There was a lot to see and hear and we spent an hour and a half wandering amongst the elaborate grave markers as well as checking out the animal and birdlife, hearing the tolling church bells, and looking up at the numerous airplanes making their way overhead to land at the nearby airport.

Here are a number of shots taken around Vienna’s Zentralfriedhof on a bright, hot and sunny morning at the end of June. Do you recognise any of the names on the gravestones?
